Welcome Day is Columbia Engineering's new graduate student orientation! It is an integral way to commence your graduate studies. During Welcome Day, you'll learn about important school and university resources, attend mandatory trainings, meet key school administrators and most importantly, meet your new classmates!

Fall 2024 Welcome Day - MANDATORY & IN-PERSON New Graduate Student Orientation - Friday, August 23, 2024

Fall 2024 new graduate student orientation (aka Welcome Day) is IN PERSON & MANDATORY

On Welcome Day, you'll learn about key resources available for graduate engineering students and hear remarks from the following members of the graduate engineering community:

  • Senior Columbia Engineering administrators such as Dean Shih-Fu Chang & Vice Dean Barclay Morrison
  • Key administrators in the Engineering Student Affairs (ESA) Office overseeing Graduate Student Life, Wellness & Support Services, Graduate Student Affairs, Professional Development and Leadership (PDL) and Graduate Career Placement (GCP)
  • The Engineering Graduate Student Council (EGSC) President and Vice President

And most importantly, you'll get to meet each other! Your future colleagues and soon-to-be lifelong friends!

Registration information for Welcome Day will be sent in early August, and you’ll receive a schedule and more detailed information in mid-August. Again, Welcome Day is mandatory and in-person, and there will not be a make-up session.

From Monday, August 26th to Friday, August 30th, new graduate engineering students are required to attend NY state-mandated Title IX and SVR trainings on-campus.

Please note that these trainings are in-person and mandatory. You must complete the trainings in addition to the pre-orientation online tutorials you'll complete prior to arriving on campus. Currently, there won’t be any sessions scheduled after Friday, August 30th. Students who have previously attended Columbia and completed these trainings are required to re-complete them.

Registration information and specific times, dates and locations for both trainings will be sent in early August.

Keep Our Community Healthy

COVID-19 Vaccination

COVID-19 vaccination will be mandatory for all students, faculty, and staff who will be present on campus this fall. By August 2, you must provide vaccine documentation or apply for a religious or medical exemption.
